Supporting young people

Torus Foundation is working hard, along with key partners, to make sure that children and young people across Torus communities have greater access to safe, fun and healthy environments.

FireFit Youth and Community Hub

FireFit is the a cornerstone of the charity Torus Foundation. Services are designed in collaboration with members and partners, ensuring that the facility inspires and empowers members and the broader community, so they can reach their full potential.

A key stakeholder and pillar in the South Liverpool community, FireFit is a place where young people feel safe and secure, where they have a sense of belonging, feel trusted, respected and listened to – not judged.

Memberships are available for Junior Zone 6-11 years old, Youth Zone 12-19 years old, adults members, along with more from Hub.

Sure Start Children’s Centres

Children’s Centres bring together a range of free services for the under-fives and their families. Services vary at each centre according to local community needs, but all centres provide child and family health, family-support services and various parent and toddler activities. Most centres also provide childcare or they signpost families to local childcare providers.

Find your local centre via Liverpool City Council, St Helens Borough Council or Warrington Borough Council.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Through FireFit, the Foundation is delighted to support young people through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE). Those aged 14-24 can apply to do a DofE programme at three levels, Bronze, Silver or Gold. FireFit is helping to deliver the Bronze Award. It provides a great opportunity to discover new interests and talents, while developing essential skills for life and work, and earning a recognised mark of achievement that’s respected by employers.

It involves helping the community/environment, becoming fitter, developing new skills, planning, training for and completing an expedition. Young people have lots of fun, make friends, improve their self-esteem and build confidence, while gaining essential skills and attributes for work and life such as resilience, problem-solving, team-working, communication and drive, enhancing their CVs and strengthening their university and job applications.

If you’re a FireFit Youth and Community Hub Youth Member (or parent) interested in achieving the Bronze Award, contact the team of how to get involved. Quote ‘DofE’ and email ypsupport@torusfoundation.org.uk.
